Sustainable Step Forward for the State Equestrian Centre

Equestrian WA would like to acknowledge and thank the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) for its support in the installation of new water tanks at the State Equestrian Centre, partially funded through the State Sporting Infrastructure Fund (SSIF).

This important infrastructure upgrade will significantly enhance the Centre’s sustainability and operational efficiency. The newly installed water tanks will capture and store rainwater collected on-site, creating a more environmentally responsible approach to water management.

The harvested rainwater will be used to support the maintenance of the Indoor Arena surface, an essential component of the facility that is utilised by riders across multiple equestrian disciplines throughout the year. Maintaining consistent arena conditions is critical for both horse welfare and rider safety, and this system will help ensure the surface can be managed effectively while reducing reliance on mains water.

By incorporating rainwater harvesting into the facility’s infrastructure, the State Equestrian Centre is taking a meaningful step toward more sustainable operations. The system allows rainfall to be captured, stored, and reused within the venue, supporting long-term water conservation while helping to maintain the high standard of the Centre’s competition and training environments.

The State Sporting Infrastructure Fund plays a vital role in enabling sporting organisations across Western Australia to improve and future-proof their facilities. This investment ensures that venues like the State Equestrian Centre can continue to serve the equestrian community while embracing more sustainable and efficient practices.

Equestrian WA is grateful to the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport for recognising the importance of this initiative and supporting infrastructure improvements that benefit riders, clubs, officials and our community who regularly utilise the Centre.

This project represents another positive step in the ongoing development of the State Equestrian Centre as a leading equestrian facility for Western Australia.
