Riding the Regional Pathway

The future of Western Australian equestrian sport is looking bright, with 14 talented EWA riders selected to join Regional Academies of Sport across the state!

From the Peel to the Great Southern, Mid-West and South West, our young equestrian athletes are taking their next steps in their sporting journeys, gaining access to valuable athlete development opportunities and representing equestrian within the broader Western Australian sporting community.

Being selected for a Regional Academy is a fantastic achievement. These programs support emerging athletes to develop the skills, knowledge and mindset needed to reach their potential — both in their chosen sport and beyond. For our riders, this means combining their time in the saddle with important areas such as fitness, performance, goal setting, wellbeing and athlete education.

More Than Just Riding

For equestrian athletes, development doesn't stop when they leave the arena. Learning how to train effectively, manage competition pressures, set meaningful goals and look after both themselves and their horses are all important parts of becoming a successful athlete.

The Regional Academies provide our riders with the opportunity to broaden their sporting experience and become more well-rounded athletes — skills that will benefit them throughout their equestrian careers.

It is particularly exciting to see equestrian represented across four Regional Academies, demonstrating the growing recognition of our sport and the calibre of young riders emerging from clubs and communities throughout Western Australia.

We are incredibly proud of all 14 riders and the commitment they are showing to their development. We can't wait to see where this pathway takes them!

Congratulations Alexis, Alyssa, Charlotte, Jasmine, Sophie, Amelia, Willow, Leilani, Stevie, Ryleigh, Isabella, Marni, Holly and Hannah — keep chasing those goals, both in and out of the saddle!

The future is bright, and these riders are certainly ones to watch.

Each athlete and referee scholarship is for a period of 12 months, commencing in April each year. Scholarships will be reviewed annually with the results of athletes to be tracked and used in a renewal process the following year.
