Equestrian WA Development Squads identify talented riders and provide a comprehensive development program of coaching, training, and mentorship so they can achieve excellence in equestrian sport.
Squads available include:
- Junior Equestrian Development Squad for riders under 18 years old
- Talent Equestrian Pathway for riders aged 18 to 24 years old
- High Performance discipline specific squads for accomplished / advanced riders
Junior Equestrian Development Squad (JEDS)
For riders under 18 years old
The Junior Equestrian Development Squad (JEDS) sponsored by Maitland Park is a competitive training program for qualifying young riders under 18 years old who live in Western Australia and are driven to perform at the top level for their age group, make their way through the competition grades or levels, and access pathways to high-performance squads.
Key Dates in 2026 (JEDS):
- 19 January 2026 (midnight AWST): Applications Close
- January 2026: Invitations sent to selected applicants.
- 1 February 2026: Assessment Day (State Equestrian Centre)
- 28 February-1 March 2026: Welcome Camp
- 9-10 May 2026: Weekend Camp
- 16-17 July 2026: Midweek School Holiday Camp
- 1-2 August 2026: Weekend Camp
- 26-27 September 2026: Weekend Camp
- 14-15 November: End of Year Windup
How can I join JEDS?
Riders who demonstrate excellence in equestrian sport, are under the age of 18 (on or before 1 January 2026), and who live in Western Australia are welcome to apply for the 2026 Squad. Applications are now open and close on 19 January 2026 (midnight AWST). Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and successful applicants will be invited to attend an assessment day at the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon on 1 February 2026.

Talent Equestrian Pathway *NEW for 2026*
For WA riders aged between 18 to 24 years old
The WA Youth Talent Equestrian Pathway (WAYTEP) sponsored by Maitland Park provides training for Western Australian riders aged 18 to 24 years old. The program provides training and development for riders to perform at the top level for their age group, make their way through the competition grades or levels, and access higher level pathways.
The program was designed to assist young adults to continue with world class coaching as they move towards higher level events and competitions. Applications for the 2026 program close on 19 January 2026.

High Performance Squads
The purpose of the Equestrian WA's (EWA) High Performance Pathway is to assist talented combination to further their equestrian development with the view of being selected onto Australia National Squad.
