New Western Australian Horse Trail Management Guidelines

Update from Parks and Wildlife Service  |  Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions:

We are thrilled to announce that on Friday, 19th May, the Hon. Samantha Rowe MLC officially launched the highly anticipated Western Australian Horse Trail Management Guidelines at the 2025 WA Trails Forum in Mandurah.

Developed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) in collaboration with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) and key stakeholders, this essential tool provides land managers, trail professionals, and trail groups with guidance to ensure a consistent approach to planning, designing, constructing, and managing sustainable horse-riding trails across the state.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your time, effort, and insights in creating this document.

As acknowledged inside the front cover, the creation of this document was a truly collaborative effort between DLGSC, DBCA, and a broad community of stakeholders who provided invaluable support, contributing their time, knowledge, and expertise. This document would not have been possible without your support and technical guidance. It stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we work together, combining different perspectives, skills, and experiences to produce something of lasting value for the community.

The guidelines are available online at Trails | Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions or via DLGSC website at Western Australian Horse Trail Management Guidelines. They are a welcome addition to the suite of documents in the Trails Development Series

DBCA and DLGSC extend their sincere thanks to everyone who contributed throughout the guidelines project.
