Ask R U OK? Any Day – because life happens every day
This Thursday is R U OK? Day, a national day of action that reminds us all to take the time to check in with those around us. But here at Equestrian WA, we know that whether it’s a friend, family member, teammate, coach, or colleague, the people in our equestrian community experience life’s ups and downs every single day.
That’s why the message this year is simple: Ask R U OK? Any Day.
Why it matters
Research shows that those who are regularly asked “Are you OK?” report stronger feelings of wellbeing. In fact, a third of Australians say they’ve been checking in with others more often in the past year. Many of us are already showing up in meaningful ways – but it’s also true that some people can feel less confident starting these conversations.
It’s natural to feel hesitant, but the good news is that nine in ten Australians say they felt grateful, supported and cared for when someone genuinely asked how they were going. That’s a powerful reason to start the conversation.
In our community
Equestrian sport can be as challenging as it is rewarding. The long days, early starts, travel, competition stress, and balancing life outside the saddle can all take a toll. That’s why checking in on each other – riders, coaches, parents, volunteers and supporters – is so important.
Sometimes, a simple “How are you really going?” can be the first step toward someone feeling less alone.
You’ve got this – and we’ve got your back
If you’re not sure how to start, there are plenty of free tools and resources to guide you. R U OK? provides conversation tips to help you build the confidence to ask the question and to support someone who might be struggling.
