BE AR DEVIL

Be Ar Devil, a 2007 Bearcat gelding bred in Western Australia, had a modest racing career with 17 starts, one win, and approximately $12,000 in earnings under trainer Robert Beattie. Since retiring from the track, he has transitioned into a happy off-the-track life with owner Stef Winnard.

Now 17 years old and known as “Yogi,” he enjoys a slower pace while continuing to stay active. In the early stages of his retraining, trail riding played a key role in helping him stay relaxed and build confidence. As he progressed, he began light arena work, focusing on pole work and grid exercises to develop strength and rhythm.

Yogi is a kind-natured horse with a cheeky, enthusiastic personality, especially in busier environments. Despite this, he has developed into a capable and willing jumper, enjoying each ride with enthusiasm.

The partnership between Yogi and Stef is built on trust, consistency, and mutual enjoyment. Rather than focusing on competition, Stef values the day-to-day experiences and the steady companionship Yogi offers.

Looking ahead, the aim is to maintain Yogi’s soundness and health so he can continue enjoying his ridden career well into his senior years. His off-the-track journey is a testament to the adaptability and heart of retired racehorses, and the special connections they can form in their second careers.
