Saddles Plus State Interschool Equestrian Festival Goes Ahead

Equestrian Western Australia is excited to announce that the State’s largest youth equestrian event, the 2020 Saddles Plus Interschool Equestrian Festival, will be held over the weekend of the 3^rd and 4^th of October 2020.

Despite the cancellation of the Australian Interschool Championships, Equestrian Western Australia, in conjunction with major sponsor Saddles Plus, have made the decision to proceed with the popular event. Like many events this year (such as the Royal Show), the format of the event will be slightly revised however the program contains all popular classes such as Combined Training, Dressage, Jumping, Show Horse and will, this year, see the addition of Vaulting.

The main changes to the event will be:

• A reduced program from a four-day event to a two-day festival;
• Removal of qualifications for Australian Interschool Championships;
• Revision of event qualifications to be a simple ‘proof-based’ mechanism;
• A Family and Sponsors event with a fun, unmounted Interschool Team Challenge on Saturday evening;
• Removal of the Interschool Leaderboard competition;
• Discounted entry fees

This year’s event will also see the removal of the Competitor and Participant categories in favour of an ‘all-in’ approach to gaining points for schools. However, Equestrian Western Australia members who hold Competitor memberships will be eligible for special Championship awards which will be announced shortly.

Overall school and Championship awards will be announced at a special Interschool Equestrian Festival awards night later in the year.

Equestrian Western Australia CEO, Dwight Pedlow, says, “After a year of such uncertainty, we’re thrilled to be able to run the Saddles Plus Interschool Equestrian Festival this year.”

He goes on to say, “We’re looking forward to a great event where young riders can come together in a fun and relaxed environment. This event is about re-connecting with peers and celebrating the re-commencement of our sport.”

Entries and more information for the 2020 Saddles Plus Interschool Equestrian Festival will be available during the week of 3 August 2020. Competitors are urged to keep an eye on the Equestrian Western Australia website and Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.
