Peregrine Lilly

Shining in Her Golden Years

Born in 2005, Peregrine Lilly – affectionately known as Tayla – retired from racing after just one start. Unsuitable for life as a pacer, she spent time as a broodmare before beginning a new journey under saddle.

In 2017, Tayla was introduced to Rosie Atkins, who was searching for a project horse and was drawn to the sweet-natured Standardbred. Although green and still learning not to pace, Tayla showed a strong willingness to learn and quickly began developing the foundations of a ridden career.

Under Rosie’s guidance, Tayla has gone from a basic walk-trot mount to confidently competing in open classes. Together, they’ve attended countless SPPHAWA and local events, with highlights including winning their first 45cm Hunter Trial class and, most recently, being crowned the 2025 SPPHAWA Off the Track WA Classic Open Standardbred Champion.

Now enjoying her senior years, Tayla continues to thrive in her second career. Rosie hopes to explore novice dressage and low-level eventing next, proving that age is no barrier when a horse is willing and loved.

Off the Track WA thanks Rosie for sharing Tayla’s inspiring journey and wishes them all the best in the seasons ahead.
