Patrionic Star

Handsome chestnut gelding Patrionic Star (by Starspangledbanner) retired from racing in January this year after 19 starts under trainer Glen Sparkes. While his heart wasn’t in racing, he quickly found his way into the loving home of Karen Hardy.

Karen had admired “Rocky” for years, after her daughter first sent her a photo of him as a two-year-old. When the opportunity arose to take him home, she knew he was the one.

To give Rocky the best start, Karen spent five months focusing on groundwork before introducing him back to ridden training. This foundation work helped them build trust and a strong partnership. Seven months on, Rocky has settled beautifully into his new career.

Now training in Western Dressage, Rocky works in a swinging fender saddle and a bosal bridle. He has already shown promise in the discipline, competing in his first event in August where he placed well in all classes and was named Champion Amateur Rider and Champion Off the Track. Calm, willing, and always trying to please, Rocky has taken to his new role as if he’s been doing it for years.

Looking ahead, Karen hopes to continue progressing through the Western Dressage grades while also enjoying the trails and local hills with Rocky. As one of only a few Thoroughbreds in the discipline, Rocky is already standing out for all the right reasons.

We wish Karen and Rocky the best as they continue their exciting journey together.
