Equestrian WA launches Rising Stars Program
In 2016 Equestrian Western Australia is again set to focus on supporting our States best young riders, offering them the opportunity to participate in a Youth Development Program. The development of young riders has long been identified as crucial to the growth of Equestrian Sports and Interschool WA has taken an active role in ensuring continued participation.
With young riders now 22% of EA membership and growing, Equestrian Australia identified the need to improve in the areas of junior development. As such, Equestrian Western Australia is launching the Equestrian Western Australia Rising Stars program. The Rising Stars Program takes a big step forward to work closer with the best young equestrian talent in the country to provide a key pathway for young riders aspiring to reach the ranks of an EWA High Performance Program and maybe also National Selection sometime in the future.
The EWA Rising Stars Program will offer funded support to a select number of Interschool riders to attend Youth Development Clinics under the watchful eye of specialist EA NCAS accredited Coaches at the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon. The Rising Stars program gives the opportunity for young riders to improve themselves in a range of areas including horse management, goal setting, fitness training, and psychology which will assist them in formulating a pathway to achieve their equestrian dream.
To be considered for the Equestrian Western Australia Rising Stars program, riders between 10 and 18 years of age are required to submit a detailed application addressing stringent selection criteria. To be selected, riders need to display a record of high achievement in (though not limited to) Interschool Competition and have a long-term goal in the sport.This is a talent identification and development program that provides young riders with a clear pathway to competing at the elite level.
Up to 35 riders will be selected for each year’s Equestrian Western Australia Rising Stars Program from across the State. As Equestrian Western Australia Rising Stars, those selected will receive a Squad uniform and participate in four intensive 2 x day Clinics at the SEC. Members will also benefit from Mentor support offered by industry professionals including Coaches and the EWA Education Manager, plus marketing and networking opportunities, social media training and much more to promote and develop their profile and equestrian career.
