Information regarding lessons
Groundwork - EA Coach Rebecca Thomas
Groundwork is all about improving the horse's focus on and response to their handler.
You will learn how to move specific body parts on cue and teach your horse to focus on responding to your body language, these classes are great for socialising green horses.
Preferred equipment - Rope halter and training lead rope of four metres in length, otherwise in a halter and have a decent length of rope.
Flatwork - EA Coaches Wendy Barker, Liz Tollarzo and Dinah Fleming
The purpose of flatwork is to assist the horse to become calm, supple, loose and flexible, but also confident, attentive and keen, thus achieving perfect understanding with its rider. Flatwork covers a multitude of exercises from circles, turns, transitions from pace to pace for example from the walk to canter and transitions within a pace such as working trot to medium trot.
Lesson classification:
- Green – can walk and trot, canter is optional
- Intermediate – can walk, trot and canter safely
- Advanced – confident to walk, trot and canter in a consistent frame. Started training in lateral movements
Show Jumping - EA Coaches Nellandra Henry and Rosemary Inglis
Jumping lessons offer horse/rider combinations the opportunity to learn to navigate obstacles in a safe, confident manner. Lessons involve grid work, single fences and poles on the ground.

- Up to 60cm
- 60cm to 80cm
- 80cm and over

Conditions of Participation
This event is open to any retired racehorse, both Standardbred and Thoroughbred including un-raced and un-trialled horses.
The racing name of your horse must be supplied with your entry, if the racing name is not known brands and/or microchip number must be supplied.
- Riders are not required to be EWA members but recommended to hold at least recreational membership for personal accident insurance. Clinic participants who are new EWA members are eligible for a discount on membership. Find out more https://www.wa.equestrian.org.au/ewa-ott-events-and-clinics
- All clinic registrations must be made online at www.nominate.com.au
- All riders must sign a disclaimer of liability when registering online
- Riders may register for a maximum of four lessons per rider/two per horse. Limited positions available at the coaching clinic, register early to avoid disappointment.
- There is a nomination fee of $25 per rider which enables the rider to up to four lessons/classes (maximum of two lessons per horse).
- Refunds - a full refund will be available until close of nominations. No refunds will be available after the close of nominations.
- Where nominations exceed requests for lessons a waitlist will be available. Nominations who only nominate for waitlist classes and are not accepted off the waitlist will be refunded their nomination fee.

- All horses will be allocated a number. This number must be worn at all times when on the grounds at the clinic. If participants don't have a number holder they will need to purchase one for $8 with registration.

RIDER NOTES:
All Riders – These clinics would not be possible without the support of Off the Track WA. Riders will need to check-in at the Off the Track WA Tent on the Presidents Lawn PRIOR to riding. Rider bags are available courtesy of Off the Track WA.
Waitlists - Combinations in YELLOW are currently waitlisted. If you are unable to attend this clinic we ask you please scratch as early as possible via email [email protected] to ensure those waitlisted are offered a position. No shows risk refusal of entries are future Off the Track Events.
All HORSES must wear their allocated bridle number on both sides of the horse. Numbers purchased with entries will be available to pick up from the Presidents Lawn from 7:30am.
EQUIPMENT
Groundwork lessons require the horse to wear the bridle the horse is normal ridden in (ideally snaffle) and the handler to bring a whip and wear an EA approved helmet, boots and gloves. Leg protection for the horse is not required.
