Blue Sandgroper

From Off the Track to Interschool Champion

In April, Off the Track WA proudly supported the 2025 Equestrian WA Interschool State Championships, presented by Ramsay's Horse Transport and Low Loader Logistics. With a dedicated OTTWA leaderboard, the event celebrated young riders and their talented retired racehorses across Combined Training, Show Horse, Dressage, Eventing, and Jumping.

Thirty-seven off the track horses took part, showcasing their adaptability and athleticism. Among them, Harriet Forrest achieved outstanding results with Blue Sandgroper, winning first place in the High Point Off the Track Dressage, first in the High Point Off the Track Show Horse, and being crowned Overall High Point Off the Track Horse. Harriet was also awarded Reserve Champion Secondary Rural Rider, while contributing to Bunbury Cathedral Grammar’s impressive team results as Reserve Champion Overall Secondary School and Champion Secondary Rural School.

Blue Sandgroper’s achievements are a testament to his adaptability, transitioning from the racetrack to a standout performance in multiple equestrian disciplines. Harriet proudly shared a photo of “Gropey” wearing his rug and sash, celebrating their well-earned awards.

Adding to her success, Harriet has been selected to represent WA as part of the National Interschool Team competing at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre this September. We wish Harriet all the best as she takes on this exciting opportunity.

Events like these highlight the incredible opportunities available to retired racehorses, giving them a second chance to excel. Congratulations to Harriet and Blue Sandgroper on their outstanding results, and to all OTTWA participants for inspiring the next generation of equestrian riders with their success stories.
