Vaulting WA Takes Next Big Step

Vaulting clubs in Western Australia will meet up in early December for their inaugural State Championships. This event is to be the first official EA vaulting competition in WA. Members of the vaulting community from all over Australia have helped to make this a reality, from assistance in the organisation of the event to FEI Level 3 Judge, Angie Deeks, coming all the way from Queensland to officiate.

This event will showcase vaulters from both metropolitan and regional areas, and will offer preparatory classes to EA members from other disciplines who wish to have a go, but have not had the opportunity to train at a club. Training sessions are available for anyone interested in having a go on the day.

WA vaulting has taken off in recent years, from a small group of keen vaulters heading to the Nationals in 2012, to the first EA affiliated club being born, involvement with the High Performance Squad, unofficial club competitions, and members from four separate groups competing at National Championship events. Holding a State Championships will offer those who are unable to travel to the Eastern States an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of high level judges and their peers alike.

This sport is unique in that one horse can cater to numerous vaulters from any number of clubs in any class at a competition. Vaulting can also be truly integrated, enabling vaulters with a disability to compete at the same events as the able-bodied, and teams of vaulters of any ability to compete together in special integrated pas de deux (doubles) and squad events. It is a truly friendly and encouraging sport that is open to everyone.

For information about special membership rates for vaulters joining or increasing membership, please contact Meredith Tenger at the Equestrian Western Australia offices, at [email protected] or on 6365 1802.

Any EA members who are interested in getting involved should contact Kay Fowler at [email protected]
