Stable Hand - Casual Position

Join our team at the picturesque State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon, WA!

We're in search of a Casual Stable Hand for weekday shifts, with a minimum of 3 hours per shift. If you have experience with horses and hold a valid Police Clearance (or willing to obtain one), we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities include mucking out stables, sweeping/blowing the yard area, and potential operation of a bobcat.While not mandatory, proficiency with a bobcat is highly desirable.

Grounds Person- Full Time Position

About Equestrian Western Australia:Equestrian Western Australia (EWA) is the State Sporting Organisation responsible for the development, promotion and governance of equestrian sport throughout Western Australia. EWA supports the Olympic Disciplines of Dressage, Eventing and Jumping, and the disciplines of Show Horse and Vaulting.EWA's mission is to lead, manage and develop the sport of equestrian by:

  • Facilitating state and national success and competition;
  • Increasing participation and spectator involvement in the sport; and
  • Ensuring excellence, relevance and effectiveness within the sport and all associated business activities.
  • Sustainably managing the multi-million dollar 72 hectare State Equestrian Centre (SEC)

How you will assist us in growing our sport and maintaining our prestigious Facility

As Grounds Person, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the 66-hectare State Equestrian Centre (SEC) in Brigadoon. 

Reporting directly to the SEC Facilities Coordinator, you will ensure that the facility is presented to a high standard for events and other bookings.

You will find your day diversified as you are tasked with a range of duties including but not limited to arena preparation (may include but not limited to arena grading), completing maintenance requests, gardening, mowing, waste management and more.

What we’re looking for

This Full time position may require rotational weekend work.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience working within a similar position in grounds and/or facility management.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills 
  • Ability to work independently/unsupervised and/or as a collaborative team member.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to meet deadlines.
  • Strong influencing and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (e.g. reticulation system, event set up etc.)
  • Experience with machinery and tools (e.g. Mowing, Whipper snipping, Hedging, chainsaw)
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain one
  • Current Working with Children Certificate or willing to obtain one
  • National Police Check or willing to obtain one
  • Western Australia driver’s license 

Desirable:

  • Experience working within the sporting industry (e.g. equestrian, racing)
  • Possess the relevant licenses to operate heavy machinery or other equipment (e.g. skid steer, tractor)
  • Working at Heights Certificate
  • Working with Hazardous Material and Chemicals
