Empowering Equestrian WA Leaders through Governance Workshop

On Monday, 24th July, the Equestrian WA (EWA) board members and EWA sport discipline committee members congregated at the State Equestrian Centre and online for a Governance Workshop. The workshop, delivered by governance and strategic planning expert Rick Smith, proved to be a pivotal event in fulfilling one of the core objectives outlined in the newly released EWA 2023-24 Strategic Plan - 'Governance Education'.

The workshop aimed to identify and provide valuable opportunities for the EWA board and discipline committee members to "up-skill" in governance practices. The participants were guided through key areas central to effective governance.

Throughout the engaging session, the participants delved into key areas central to fostering sound governance, with key area’s covered including;

  • The meaning/definition of governance
  • Ten principles that promote good governance
  • Effective and Efficient Directors/Discipline Committee Members
  • Important Legal and Ethical responsibilities
  • 12 Practical Tips for the implementation of good governance principles and practices

The Governance Workshop proved to be an invaluable experience, with the knowledge and insights gained during this workshop expected to enhance the organisation's governance practices, laying a robust foundation for a prosperous future.
