Changes to the Board

EWA wishes to announce that there have been changes to the board with Ron Fleming to take the role of Chairman effective immediately.

Previous Chairman, Colin Chantler, will remain on the Board as Vice Chairman. Colin has been Chairman of the EWA Board for the past 3 years and has led the organisation through some difficult times.

Newly-elected Chairman, Ron Fleming, says "Colin's contribution has been invaluable and we look forward to his continued support as Vice Chairman over the coming years. During the 3 years that Colin has been Chairman I have worked alongside him as his Vice Chairman and we have formed a strong working relationship, working with a number of CEO and acting CEOs during this time."

"The Board elected me to take on the role of Chairman - a role that I am honoured to accept, and understand that there will be a lot of hard work associated with it. I look forward to working with your Board, the Sports Committees and our CEO Dwight Pedlow." said Ron.

"For members who do not know me, I have a lifelong background with horses, having worked in the thoroughbred breeding industry, trained racehorses, broken in and re-educated many horses. I rode in eventing for many years before my more recent transition to Dressage. I managed the State Equestrian Centre for a number of years in the late eighties / early nineties before moving into Vocational Training initially within the TAFE sector and now am the Manager of Racing Industry Training with Racing and Wagering WA where I oversee training and recruitment of apprentice jockeys, jockey welfare including Workers Compensation and general promotion of Careers in Racing which includes supporting training organisations deliver training for the horse industry." said Ron.

Fellow Board member, Sophie Stott, has also elected to step down from her role on the Board due to ongoing personal commitments.

"It would be remiss not to mention Sophie Stott’s contribution to the Board also. Sophie has always been passionate about providing a strong member culture for our equestrian sport and whilst she will be missed on the Board I am sure we will continue to benefit from her ideas and support in the future", said Ron.

EWA would like to thank Sophie for her many years of service and wish her all the best for the future.

With a position now vacant, the Board hopes to find a person with an Accounting background who could provide added financial management strength and take on the role of Director of Finance for EWA. Expressions of interest are currently being invited for the role and can be submitted to [email protected].
