March Introductory Coaching Workshop

On the 9th and 10th of March, eight candidates attended the EWA NCAS Introductory Coach Familiarisation Workshop held at the State Equestrian Centre to begin their journey to NCAS Coaching Accreditation.

The Introductory Coach course is designed to provide the candidate with essential skills and knowledge to offer basic equestrian coaching in a safe and nurturing environment. This course is the fundamental course underpinning all equestrian coaching courses.

Upon completion of Introductory Level, coaches can then progress onto high levels of coaching and specialisation in Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, Carriage Driving or Vaulting.

The Introductory Coaches in attendence at the March Workshop included:

The workshop was facilitated by EA NCAS Coach Educators Rebecca Thomas and Felicity Perry.

In order to attend the workshop, the candidates had to complete a number of pre-requisites to qualify. These included:

  1. Completing both EA Introductory Riding and EA Introductory Horse Management Certificates.
  2. Obtaining Senior First Aid Certificate (including CPR). (HLTCPR201A)
  3. Completing the generic ASC Beginning Coaching General Principles course. This generic course can be completed online via the ASC web site www.ausport.gov.au.
  4. Obtaining insurance. EA Trainee Coach Insurance is available: download the application form go to www.wa.equestrian.org.au and click on ‘Forms and Documents’ on the ‘Education’ Page. Candidates are also permitted to source insurance independently from the EA.

Upon completion of the Two Day Introductory Familiarisation Workshop with the Coach Educators, the candidates are able to commence their coaching workbook. They can then “practice” coaching and complete remaining practical assessment tasks.
