While many will remember Alan for the success of the America’s Cup campaign, he will be remembered throughout the equestrian community for his significant contribution to our sport and infrastructure particularly throughout the 1980’s.

Alan, with Laurie Connell, was instrumental in the development and financing of the State Equestrian Centre and other equestrian facilities in the Brigadoon area. Thirty years on, the State Equestrian Centre remains a key equine precinct, housing various Equestrian stakeholders and hosting thousands of competitors annually.

Alan was also a keen follower of Show Jumping with his daughter Susanne being a successful rider competing at the national level. It was an exciting time for Show Jumping in Western Australia with a high quality circuit, including a World Cup, attracting the country’s leading riders. Alan was a significant supporter of many events during this period.

We are extremely grateful for Alan’s contribution to our sport. The State Equestrian Centre is a true legacy for our community to enjoy for generations to come.
